WHAT SIZE DRESS FORM SHOULD I USE?

Whether you're sewing for yourself or others, using the right size dress form is key to achieving the perfect fit. While any dress form can be modified with padding to replicate the wearer's exact measurements, adjustable dress forms make a wider range of sizes accessible to you with just a few turns of the adjuster knobs, making it especially easy to modify your dress form to your exact needs. That wiggle room is not infinite, however, so you'll want to choose the adjustable dress form that most closely resembles the measurements of the person or people you'll be sewing for.

Measuring For A Dress Form

To find the closest match, you'll need to start by taking full-body measurements. Here are the measurements you'll need:

1. Measure the chest over the fullest part.

2. Measure the natural waist – the area where your waistband most comfortably sits.

3. Take hip measurement 7"-9" below the waistline. This should be the widest part

of your hip area.

4. Measure back waist length from neck to natural waist.

5. Measure from the waist to the floor. Add this to the back waist length to find the

height from neck to floor.

6. Measure from the shoulder to the center of the chest.

7. Measure around the base of the neck.

8. Measure the shoulder across the back from side to side.

Using the size chart below, choose the dress form that most closely matches or is slightly smaller than your measurements––you can always adjust the dress form and/or add padding to make it larger.
