WHAT YOU NEED:
Fabric
Phillips Head Screwdriver
STEP 1: MEASURE & MARK
First, choose a fabric to make your tassel. Select a material like leather or vinyl that won't fray or unravel when cut. (This is a great way to use scraps left over from bag-making projects!) Then prepare the material by doing the following:
Cut your fabric to size: the width should be 3 inches, and the length should be the desired length of your tassel plus 1/2 inch.
Measure 1/2 inch down from the top of your fabric on the "wrong" side and mark across with a fabric marker of your choice. This end will be placed in the hardware.
Measure 1/4-inch strips across the fabric to make your fringe and mark.
STEP 2: CUT THE FABRIC
Using your markings as a guide, cut the fabric into strips from the bottom of the fabric up to your 1/2 inch mark.
STEP 3: ROLL THE FABRIC
Carefully roll your fabric up to make the tassel and temporarily secure with a sewing clip or similar item.
STEP 4: APPLY GLUE
Glue the inside of the tassel hardware to help hold the tassel in place. Any permanent glue that can adhere to metal, like this Industrial Strength Adhesive, will work for this application.
STEP 5: ASSEMBLE THE TASSEL
Unclip the tassel and insert the rolled end into the Tassel Cap. Place the small screw that comes with the tassel hardware into its corresponding hole on the tassel cap. Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to secure the tassel in place, and then you're finished! Now you have a tassel that's ready to use on its own or add to a project.
