CHOOSING D-RINGS FOR SEWING PROJECTS

One of the most commonly used pieces of bag hardware, D-rings, offer both a strong connection point and an elegant finishing touch for all kinds of projects. They're often used to connect a strap or handle to the body of a bag or create an attachment point for items like removable straps, pet leashes and collars, overall straps, keychains, and much more. Two D-rings can also be used on one strap to form a strap adjuster or belt closure. Their sleek finish can add a touch of elegance to a project, while their durability adds function. When choosing a D-ring, consider which size and finish best match your project.

Metal D-Ring Sizes

Choosing the correct D-ring size is key to creating a functional attachment point, especially if the D-ring will serve as a strap attachment point or adjuster. If the D-ring is too small, the strap may not be able to fit through the ring properly; if it's too large, the strap may slide awkwardly around the ring when you use it.

The key to choosing the correct D-ring size is using a D-ring of equal width to your strap or strap material. For example, if you want to make a strap out of one-inch wide webbing, you'll need a D-ring that measures one inch wide across the inside of the ring. For your convenience, all WAWAK D-rings feature this inside width measurement in the product title: for example, our 1/2-inch D-rings measure 1/2 inch across the inside of the ring and would work well with a 1/2-inch wide strap.

Our metal D-rings for purses, handbags, and more are available in several common strap sizes. For more specific measurements of each size and a to-scale image for reference, download our D-ring size chart below.
